Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents emigrated to Louisiana during the decade of the 1990s. Decker won a regional talent competition with a rendition from Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of barely nine. Decker was moving to Georgia by the time she reached the age of 15. She wrote songs frequently and was regularly visiting Nashville to find deals. In 1997, she'd been turning 17 when a Big Yellow Dog Records rep was introduced to her. The rep began selling her songs and music to a variety of musicians and record companies. Decker's demos were passed to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was then in charge of Island/Def Jam. Reid then agreed to sign Decker to a recording deal. Jessie James, her moniker for the album she released under that name on August 9, 2009 was her own self-titled. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut album. Wanted, a song of the album, reached the Top 40 singles chart. Although Decker has always believed she was as a singer from the country genre, the album was released and marketed to a broader audience mind. Decker fought against the label for more control of her music after two of her singles failed. The album she released next, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. The second album of Decker, dubbed as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was canceled after Mercury noticed the weak results of three of the singles on the country charts.
